Dermal Fillers
As the skin ages, it gradually loses some of it's collagen and fat. Skin cells divide more slowly and the inner skin starts to thin. Fat cells beneath the dermis weaken, whilst the underlying network of collagen and elastin fibres loosen and unravel losing elasticity. Therefore we age and our skin becomes wrinkled.
Dermal fillers help to restore our skin to it's former youthful appearance. The dermal fillers used by us are made up of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring polysaccharide (sugar), so there is no need for skin testing prior to treatment.
The dermal filler is injected into the skin areas where it needs to be plumped up again and made to look smoother and firmer. Prior to the treatment the skin is numbed with a topical anaesthetic. The treatment can take from 15-30 minutes, depending on how many areas treated, with little or no discomfort. The lasting effect of dermal fillers can last up to 1 year.
